Affiliated Artists, LLC was created in 2007 as a holding company for David Butler's interest in his business partnership with legendary jazz guitarist and educator Jimmy Bruno. This partnership is called Artist One, LLC. Artist One is the business entity behind the Jimmy Bruno Guitar Institute (JBGI) which opened its doors in May of 2007. The JBGI provides guitar students around the world an effective way to utilize the Internet to learn jazz guitar. It has revolutionized guitar instruction. JBGI enrollment has far exceeded initial projections. Infused with Jimmy Bruno's unique guitar method and David's strategic business model and proprietary technology, the JBGI is now the destination of choice for many hundreds of jazz guitar students from over 45 countries. The JBGI utilizes the ArtistWorks distance-learning and teaching platform.

Born in Memphis, Tennessee and possessed at an early age with an interest in music and a talent for computers, David graduated from the University of Maryland in 1980 with a degree in Computer Science. After a diverse career in computers and technology that included satellite ground tracking stations and ocean floor mapping, in 1988 David joined Quantum Computer Services, later to be known as AOL. Leading a small team of programmers, David and his team wrote the original AOL 1.0 software. An eleven-year AOL career culminated in his becoming the VP of Technology and Strategy for the Technology Division. In 1999, David left AOL to pursue other interests, including philanthropy and serious jazz guitar studies with jazz guitar educator Jimmy Bruno. While studying with Mr. Bruno, David wondered if there wasn't a way for Mr. Bruno to offer his complete guitar instructional method to the world via the Internet. This led to the creation of the acclaimed Jimmy Bruno Guitar Institute which unified David's technology and strategic ideas into an Internet-based distance learning and teaching platform and online business. David has now standardized the platform, and created The ArtistWorks Project to take it to multiple artists around the world.
In July of 2008, David filed for a US patent for core inventions at the heart of the ArtistWorks Video Management System.
